THE RIOT IS COMING TOGETHER

Undefeated Eloy Perez (9-0-2, Salinas) finally has an opponent for his 8 round Main Event bout October 26th in Downtown Monterey. Coming to THE RIOT from Washington DC is Ron Boyd (5-2 w/2ko's). Boyd is trained by former World Champion Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson who ruled the fly and superflyweight divisions a decade ago. This is a significant test for the 20 year old Team Garcia protege as Boyd is a southpaw. He also dropped undefeated (8-0) John Molina in his last bout, but was eventually stopped by a big shot. Perez does not present the punching power of Molina needed to stop Boyd, so expect an 8 round technical war. Perez turns 21 the day of the weighin October 25th, while Boyd is a much more mature fighter who fights in the style of his mentor Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson. That kind of test is exactly what Eloy needs at this point of his career. He's beaten some grizzled vets, his skill and speed got him past others, but will he have the ability to slow down Boyd who promises to bring an attacking style? Perez has had a nasty habit of retreating straight backwards, which could be very dangerous against Ron Boyd. Meanwhile, our women's bout has been nothing but a nightmare. Cynthia Talmadge has been solid all along, but several of her opponent have bowed out. One, out of complete stupdity by taking a fight despite a signed contract that stated "no fights in interim". Katarina de la Cruz got knocked out in that fight, which KO'd her appearance in Monterey. Her replacement Michelle Gutierrez was the perfect fit, but got injured in training a couple weeks back. Problem is, I didn't find out about the injury to yesterday. Fortunately, there is another girl at 119 who will fight Cynthia, and her name should appear in this space tommorrow. The return of Jesus Vega is good to go pending the final approval of California Chief Armando Garcia. He is in possession of the oncologist report of Mr. Vega complete recover from testicular cancer and Dr. Laura V. Stampleman's statement of Jesus being 100% clear to fight. Again, until Mr. Garcia officially approves the bout, I can not name the opponent. Hopefully that will be shared with you tommorrow as well. Meanwhile, the other fights are solid. Navigate this website to Events where the entire fight card is outlined. An opponet for 30-3 Jose Celaya will also be announced tommorrow. Jose is heading to big bear this evening for a final week of sparring, which could be an aid to Jesus "Chuy" Rodriguez, since Celaya is a southpaw, and Chuy collides with Patrick Lopez is also a lefty in the biggest fight of his career. The Rodriguez-Lopez battle will aired live on Showtime on Friday October 16th, exactly one week before the 3 stablemates of Chuy (Eloy Perez, Jesus Vega and Constancio Alvarado) get to perform at THE RIOT. That "Collision at the Conference Center" on October 26th in Downtown Monterey promises to be a spectacular show. Tickets are available on this website at virtualboxoffice.com or by calling me direct at 831-688-1604.
