Pending a complete authorization from his Oncologist,
Jesus Vega will box professionally for the first time in over 4 years having already won the biggest fight of his life. The 14-0 Salinas Super Featherweight has made a complete recovery from testicular cancer which stalled his promising career when diagnosed 4 years ago. California State Athletic Commission Chief Armando Garcia has approved Vega's come back when he recieves the fighter's clearing report from his doctor. That report is now being compiled and Mr. Garcia will have the statement soon. This historic return will be in a 4 rounder. The opponent has been approved based on Mr. Garcia's stipulations, and we applaud him for his cautious approach to this most meaningful return to the ring for Jesus Vega. However, the doctor must completely clear Mr. Vega or the fight will not happen. Meanwhile, Jesus has been doing tremendously well in training camp in Big Bear. Sugar Shane Mosley's gym has been buzzing with Salinas fighters who are now stablemates of Vega. Everyone is helping Jesus "Chuy" Rodriguez prepare for his biggest bout on Showtime. Chuy gets TV time October 19th from Sacramento as he is the semi-main event. At 16-2, Rodriguez is on a roll after teaming up with Max and Kathy Garcia since being released from prison several years ago. Vega, a southpaw is sparring with Rodriguez in preparation for 11-1 Patrick Lopez who is a lefty. THE RIOT main event featured fighter is prospect Eloy Perez who is 9-0-2 at just 20 years old. Eloy and Chuy are teammates, helping eachother get ready for the biggest fights in their respective careers, and Jesus Vega is benefiting greatly from the work ethic of his new Team Garcia fighters. Not to be forgotton is 2-0-2 Constancio Alvarado. He was working in the fields of Salinas last year until the Garcia's brought him into the gym and began tuning his skills. Of course former Team Garcia fighter Jose Celaya who is 30-3 is also on THE RIOT boxing card October 26th, in downtown Monterey. Jose has been training in Gilroy with Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero who defends his World Featherweight title in November. Let's hope all is well with Jesus Vega, and his story about returning to the ring after beating his bout with Cancer can be told.
